Rev. Calvin Hunt (1957 - 2009)

“Calvin Hunt, Gospel Music Performer, Died In Queens, NY”

Queens, NY (12-26-09) Vine Records’ recording artist, Calvin Hunt died Saturday in a Queens, NY hospital at the age of 52. The acclaimed Gospel singer was a member and soloist of the famed Christ Tabernacle Choir and Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers. His latest Vine Records’ release, Bridges, claimed 2 Dove Award nominations for Contemporary Gospel Recording and Contemporary Gospel Song, “Come On.”

Christ Tabernacle Choir Director Steven Carey commented, “Calvin Hunt’s ministry transcended his terrific musical talent…He loved Jesus Christ, he loved people, and as a result He loved to share the love of Christ with anyone he came in contact. The faith he had in the God that had delivered him from drug addiction could be powerfully felt when he would tell his story. His testimony gave people hope…everyone from the inner city to the suburbs was touched when he would speak and sing. He will be missed greatly by his local Christ Tabernacle family, the music industry, and the body of Christ.”

Producer Wayne Haun added, “Calvin was a true artist. Each note of every performance was from the heart, and you knew it. But more importantly, he was a true friend. He never treated us like a record company. We were family. He knew my mom, my nephews, what made me tic, and he even knew my favorite pasta dish. He loved the Lord, his family and his fans. Life without him is definitely going to be tough. This industry will miss him, but I'm glad his music and his message will live forever.”

Chris Durso On Youth Ministry...

Having the honor to rock & sit under Chris Durso has changed my perception, view, whatever on who & what a "Servant Leader" is. He's a prime example of that definition. Check this out and you'll understand:

B-Luv "MGPY"

B-Luv is an young, passionate minister of Hip-Hop. Loves the Lord big time and it's evident in his life & music. He seeks to constantly to grow closer to God.

A few months ago, we hosted his NYC Album Release at The Aftershock and I'll tell ya...all eyes & ears were glued to him. The passion and words were pouring out of him. The room was quiet because the young people were drawn to him. So, I don't know what more to say. Go pick up his project for yourself & someone else!

R-Swift "Anthem

R-Swift has released a another banger "Anthem". He onces again keeps it real, pouring his heart out to the people in the streets over mellow beats. R-Swift grabs people's attention when he steps to the mic. J.A.Z., Braille, KJ-52, are just the few who make guest appearances.

Da' T.R.U.T.H. "The Big Picture"

The album hit stores this past Tuesday. I mustr tell you need to pick it up. Da' T.R.U.T.H. did an outstanding job on this project. The concept is basically giving a deep look into our God. Who He is?, His creation, and His unmeasurable amount of love. The music is different but fitting and content he brings to the table is beyond words. It makes you think, strech yourself, and laugh about this great God we serve.

Youth Pastors Fellowship

Last Monday night, Pastor Adam Durso and Youth Explosion hosted another Youth Pastors Fellowship. This time it took place at Times Square Church and over 175 Youth Pastors & Leaders were in attendance. The night was incredible. We had a time of worship, fellowship, and a thought from Pastor Adam Durso. We were all inspired and motivated after our gathering.

There was such a dope picture of leaders just networking and fellowshiping together. People wanted to learn and work with each other. I had the privilege to sit with two leaders who are just getting started in youth ministry. Learning that I have a decade under my belt, they were asking questiions, sharing their hearts, and picking my brain. So I did get a chance to share my experiences and insight for 30 minutes. Man, it made me a little weary but I love doing that!

There is another Fellowship in the works for Thursday May 21st. As the day draws near, I will post all the information.

Happy Birthday Dad!!

Today is Pastor Durso's 59th Birthday. I'm so honored to call this man of God my Pastor, Dad, friend, mentor, co-worker/laborer, etc. I don't think I would be half the man I man if it wasn't for him. Just being able to sit under him learning and following. So, again Happy Birthday Poppa Durso. I Love You!!

The Discipline Of Discipleship...

* This issue of discipleship just keeps coming up in my mind. I guess it's because I'm seeing it in front of me. There's young ministries that as they keep growing in numbers they seem to put this behind them and it now becomes about pushing your name & numbers. You can also put the ministries that God is slowly blessing with resources and put on alot of concerts and look for the same results. But what about that small youth ministry just getting underway or just not growing as much, we seem to be fired up about 1 on 1 evangelism, impacting their community, and chopping it up together.

* As the years of a youth group/ministry expand, I'm a firm believer that as the next generations come in and culture changes, the main core values are always to stay. "Oh, this / that is traditional!" NO!! IT'S NECESSARY!!

* A friend onces said to a group of leaders, "It's not so much what happens from 8-10 but what happens after 10". Meaning sometimes the greatest impact isn't always when we put on that concert or some huge party but it's that 1 or 1 time that really gets to the heart. A back-slid young person reminsing on old days of being in a youth ministry and serving God said, "I remember when we would go out to eat every week and fellowship after the meeting." I was about of youth ministry for 10 years (6 as a young radical) and the times I cherish most are the ones when leaders would take some fellow peers & I out for dinner after the service. For 2/3 hours, we would just eat, joke around, drip the scriptures and talk life. There were also many times that we stay late after the meeting. We all would huddle on stage just worship, maybe do a devotion, pray, or share what's on our heart and the situations in out lives. There were powerful and life changing!

random thoughts as they come to mind...will restructure & put together in the coming days!

RELOAD NYC 2009

This past weekend we hosted UYWI's RELOAD conference. It is a 1 day conference where Youth Pastors, Leaders, and Workers come together just to be inspired, learn, and connect with each other. Well, over 1,000 people squeezed in Christ Tabernacle and the day just unexplainable. People came out from the Tr-State and beyond to be challenged by the great leaders such as Ron Luce, Harvey Carey, Larry Acosta, The Ambassador, Dr. A.R. Bernard and many more.

It would take all day just to unpack & explain everything. So check out summaries on the blogs of Jeremy Del Rio and Ralph Castillo.

Photos will be up soon.

How Should The Church Start Off Each Year?

IN PRAYER!!

I'm a firm believe that the church body should gather together in prayer & fasting. It's coming alongside each other as one, going to God, and laying the new year before Him. Whether for individual needs in our lives or corporate needs as a local church, we need go to Him and say, "God, we put _________ in YOUR hands. Do as you will and know the outcome is best for us!

Happy Birthday Pastor Adam!

Today is Pastor Adam Durso's 32nd birthday. He's family, a close friend, mentor, co-laborer / worker, etc. I wouldn't be who or where I am if it wasn't for him. I'm humbled to be apart of the Durso family. I've learned so much about family & ministry from them. Let me stop...Love you dude!
